OK, not exactly on my tummy, but on someone else’s – but it got you to read this far…

So, I’m flipping channels a few days ago, and I turned to the History Channel (Do you remember when they actually presented history?).  A show was on (Stan Lee’s Superhumans) where they tell the story of people who can do “superhuman” things.  The reason it caught my interest was because I recognized the person – Dr. Tom Owen.  At over the age of 60, he displayed his amazing tummy strength by allowing a truck to drive over his stomach.

Pretty cool!  But I remember him when… 😉

It was the mid-80s, and I was a teenager at South Panola High School (better known as the University of South Panola) when Tom came to my church to perform feats of strength and to share how Jesus Christ had changed his life.  One evening we even moved to the SPHS football stadium so that he could speak to more people and do his truck-filled-with-football-players-driving-over-his-tummy routine.  Needless to say (but I will), it made an impression on me (but not on my tummy).

As I watched Tom on the TV, I thought back to my introduction to him.  And I was also reminded of something he said – he quoted Jesus from…

(John 14:12-13) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

Watching Tom do something that I would never dream of doing shows me that this is true.  It’s not that he’s “superhuman.”  He’s just a man who has worked toward refining his ability.

What about you?  Jesus said that if you are His – if you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior – not just in name – not just in word – but when He is really your Lord and Savior – the impossible becomes possible.  Jesus also said…

(Matthew 17:20) “…if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

I’m not advocating trucks on tummies – but I am asking you to consider your faith.  Do you truly trust that when God has a plan for you, He will see that it is done if you are faithful?  Are you willing to trust Him no matter what – no matter where – no matter when?  Are you willing to do what you know you cannot do (in your own power) as long as you know God wants you to do it?  Do you truly believe the following verse…

(Ephesians 4:13) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Don’t fall for the lie – “What can I do?”  Remember that through Christ you can do all things.  Remember that He is able.  Remember that greater things are ahead.  Remember that you are only limited in your Christian life by how you limit yourself.
