Where Is Your Loyalty?

Sometimes it’s hard to root for your favorite team, isn’t it?  Teams have good years and bad years,  It is exciting when everything is going well, but that is not always how seasons go.  You start the season with high expectations, but as the season progresses, the team unravels.  It is heartbreaking.

Life shows us that being committed to someone or some group is hard.  People are not perfect, and they often disappoint us.  Even though we want to have someone to hold in high esteem, no one can live up to such a high standard.

That desire to commit yourself is natural.  We all need someone to give us inspiration, direction, and hope.  Our problem with that lies in the fact that we typically miss the one person to whom we should give our ultimate allegiance – Jesus.

Many people think that living fully for Jesus is hard because we believe that others will not accept it or possibly give us a hard time for it.  However, our possible trials are tiny in comparison to what Christians have faced throughout history.

In the earliest days of the church, Christians often were ostracized, mocked, imprisoned, and eve killed.  In that kind of atmosphere, Paul wrote to his young apprentice Timothy to encourage him to stay strong.  He reminded Timothy of his calling to serve as a preacher, apostle, and teacher and then told Timothy, “I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed for I know whom I have believed, and persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12)

He was not committed to some wish or something that was not stable.  He was sure of Jesus which is why he committed himself fully.

My friends, because God is totally committed to His children, we can be fully committed to Him.  When He prompts you to accept His salvation, we must commit our lives to Him.  When He reminds us to take up our cross daily and follow Him, we must commit every step to Him.  When we do not know what tomorrow holds, we must commit to the one who has a plan for our lives and wants us to impact the world.

I urge you to commit yourself to Jesus.  He is already committed to you.
