Have you ever wanted to go somewhere special? Maybe you heard about it from others, and it sounded like an incredible place. Maybe you saw pictures, and it looked like a fun place. However, you did not really know what it would be like until you actually got there.
I cannot help but think about when I took my family to Disney World. I had heard about it and seen pictures, but I had no idea what it would be like. I was amazed when I actually experienced Disney and saw the happiness on my kids’ faces. I will admit that I also had a blast – the entertaining rides, the customer service, the sights, the experiences, the sounds, the food – it was fantastic, but I did not know that until I walked through it.
Many years ago God told Abram (Abraham) that He was going to give a special land to him and his offspring. He made promises, and Abram was thrilled – but God then said to him, “Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.” (Genesis 13:17)
Abram heard about the land. Abram could see part of it. But until he walked through it, he did not know how amazing it truly was.
Do you realize that your life is like that as well?
If you are a Christian, God has made amazing promises to you, and many others probably have told you about how wonderful it is to walk with Jesus. He said that He gives us abundant life, power to face whatever life throws at us, His presence, the ability to overcome hurt and pain, and so much more. He has made incredible promises to His children, but many of us are not experiencing them. We see them. We hear about them. But we are not walking in them.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” All Christians want to experience God’s promises, but it is not enough to hear about them or see them happen in others. You have to walk in them. You have to trust Him. You have to go where He leads and do what He says.
Abram had a long journey to walk through the Promised Land, and you know how tiring a really long walk can be. It is not simple to walk with Jesus either. It is not simple, but it is amazing. And if you are willing to go with Him, you can experience what only He can do.
Are you ready to walk through it?
