Have you ever read something or been to a conference or meeting where you were told that you could do something great or overcome something awful – but you did not see how it was possible?
There are times when we cannot understand how life could be better because we have never experienced it. Other people may talk about reaching massive heights, but we feel like we are in the bottom of a gulley. It is frustrating and depressing.
I think many people view Easter like that. We are told that God can do amazing things in our lives, but we have not seen it happen yet – so we do not understand how it could happen. We hear about Jesus’ resurrection and what that should mean for us, but we do not understand how it might happen. It can be frustrating and depressing.
Paul pointed out that if we continue to place our hope in ourselves, we will never make it. Trusting in what we can do to overcome life is living as if Jesus has no power in our lives. He stated in 1 Corinthians 15:17-20: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Those, then, who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished. If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone. But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
We would be in a hopeless situation without Jesus. However, because of Jesus – because of Easter – God can meet our needs, and then we can deal with our personal desires.
When you worship God this Easter Sunday (and I urge you to do so), do not dismiss what Jesus can do. Instead, choose to trust Him and follow Him. Choose to let Him work in your life, and choose to accept and act upon what we are told in 1 Peter 5: 6-7: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on Him, because He cares about you.”
Jesus lived to show us how we can live and know God. Jesus died to pay the price for sin that we owe. Jesus rose to show that sin and death is beneath Him. Jesus offers salvation and hope if we will accept Him and His ways.
There is hope! There is hope for you and me! So…Happy Easter!
