What Does Your Face Say?

I’ll admit it.  There have been a few times when Kristi had to tell me to watch out for how I look.  Apparently, if I am not careful, I sometimes show displeasure or annoyance on my face without realizing it.

The look you have on your face is important.

Think about Moses.  After spending over a month alone with God, do you remember what his face looked like (Exodus 34:29)?  It shone so bright that no one could look at him.

Think about those two disciples who were walking on the road to Emmaus right after Jesus had been crucified.  They were extremely sad because they did not know about Jesus’ resurrection, but when they met Him on that road, do you remember what happened to their faces (Luke 24:31-34)?  They were instantly happy!

Perhaps those events (and others) are why we read in Psalm 27:8: “My heart says this about You: ‘Seek His face.’  LORD, I will seek Your face.”

It changes you.  When you focus on Him, it changes you.  It turns you into the kind of joyful and peaceful person that most people want to be around.

God created us to be with Him.  And if we would really seek His face, it would change who we are.

You can usually tell what is on someone’s mind or in their heart by the look on their face.

Going back to Psalm 27 – King David wrote it – a man who faced enemies out to kill him, his family, friends, and anything else associated with him.  However, he knew that he needed to take his eyes off his enemies and seek God’s face.  It changed him.

We sing about this in our churches… “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”  It changes us.

But is it changing you?

The truth is that on what you focus determines your joy and fulfillment.  You can focus on your problems and disappointments, or you can focus on God.  I think we all know which we should choose.

Seek Him.  Think about what He has done and why.  Remember that because of the cross, you are loved and can be forgiven.  Remember the early days of your salvation and how excited you were to be His.  Remember that He has promised to always be with you, and He has never broken a promise.  Think on these things, and you will be focused on Him.  It will change you.

Peter and John were once arrested because of their faith, but after speaking to those who hated Jesus, we read (in Acts 4:13): “When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.”

Let’s focus on Jesus too.  Let’s seek His face.  It will change you.

Randy Alcorn wrote an interesting book to get us to think about seeing Jesus as He is.  Check it out below…
