What to Do When You Are Confused

The little boy stands in the toy aisle with his mouth wide open.  He gets to pick a toy for his birthday, but there are so many from which to choose.  He cannot make up his mind.

The girl knows that two boys like her and want to ask her out.  She likes them both in different ways.  She cannot make up her mind.

The man has a job offer, but he feels comfortable where he is.  He can make a list of positives and negatives for both jobs.  He cannot make up his mind.

The woman has had a friend for years, but the drama never ends.  She always is on edge, not knowing what she will have to face if she continues to devote so much time to her.  She cannot make up her mind.

Confusion is common.  We face confusion in big things and little things, and it can be overwhelming.

Often, we get mad at God for our confusion, but we should not.  1 Corinthians 14:33 reminds us that “God is not the author of confusion but of peace.”  Peace is what we truly need.

Peace comes from where you place your trust.  If we trust our own wisdom or the wisdom of others, we will consistently be discouraged because we will always be let down.  If we trust in God, we will find peace.  He knows all, knows the number of hairs on your head, cares about you, and is the source of all wisdom.

God does not cause confusion, but He does allow us to face it because we need to deal with our issues, find strength, find peace, and process truth.  We want an immediate fix, clarity, and direction, but God wants to work in us to help us become who we are supposed to be.  We wants to bring us into alignment with Himself, so we can be at peace.

So how do we gain His wisdom?  James 1:5 states: “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God – who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly – and it will be given to him.”

We ask Him.  We align with Him.  We align with His desires, His heart.  And then our will will be His will, and we will not have confusion.

Is that what  you want?  I do.
